On July 11th six troubled students set sail to the Pacific Ocean for a month near Guam. Captain Cascadden and his mate Mr.Radford taught them skills such as cooperation, teamwork and encouraged to become friends. They are part of a program called "Charting a New Course" (CNC). The new "crew" consists of Luke Haggerty, Lyssa and Will Greenfield, Charla Swann, J.J Lane, and Ian Sikorsky. These adolescents were all caught in serious trouble, so they were admitted to the program. Luke Haggerty was given a choice of either joining CNC or spending time in jail for a felony conviction, due to having a gun in his locker at his school. The Greenfield siblings were always arguing at home, it got fairly serious when they grew older and violence continued. It is quite clear none of them want to be there or enjoying their stay. The schooner (ship) called Phoenix It is mayhem trying to work together on a sixty-foot boat but eventually make their way. All of a sudden a tremendous storm develops. They are all faced with calamitous circumstances Captain James Cascadden falls overboard, and the ship is sinking. Captain James Cascadden's mate Mr.Radford abandons the youths and leaves the ship with a twelve-foot wooden dingy in the morning and takes most of they're food. The kids find themselves all alone on a deserted island fighting for their lives. They help one another to survive the dire conditions . As they are stranded they learn the skills of cooperation, teamwork, and become friends.
